Meanwhile…

When I was in college I has some professors that taught themes in history. One said the main theme of American history was racism and bigotry. Another said that sexism was the main theme, another greed, etc., etc.

All of these themes have indeed been part of American history. But to focus on one theme in such an ever changing dynamic history makes me believe those professors had agendas and wanted to push their mindsets into the next generation.

From the beginning people came here for financial reasons.

Meanwhile, people were coming here for religious freedom.

 

while negative things happen…they are not all that happen.

While some abused and disrespected women, our society moves in the opposite direction in business and in politics. While some bars in Shreveport, La. denied service to us soldiers in 1969 because some of us were black, millions of other Americans were honoring and serving those in uniform no matter race and ethnicity. While slave masters abused and demeaned black persons, others risked their lives running the underground railroad. While political haters made films painting both Trump and Democrats as evil incarnate, millions of us will not drink the hate drink. We celebrate, that meanwhile as the haters made their media efforts, others created beautiful music, hilarious comedies, and riveting action adventures, and heart felt love stories.

Our lives and our histories have much change and many themes. Don’t come so fixated on the negative…because meanwhile…
